Undergraduate ProgramStudents may pursue work in any of the Department's seven areas of study:
Common for all students is the grounding in key analytical ideas and research methods provided in two departmental core courses: Concepts in Social and Cultural Analysis, and Strategies for Social and Cultural Analysis. This integrative foundation is put to use in whatever program-specific course work students undertake, in any internship fieldwork in which they participate, and in the senior research seminar that culminates the course of study. Hence the curriculum as a whole balances rigorously focused inquiry in specific fields with careful attention to the ways those fields overlap and interrelate. Students completing work in the Department are thus well prepared either for graduate study or for careers in such fields as education, international relations, law, non-profit administration, community organizing, public policy, and urban and regional planning. |
