Wendy Cheng

With research interests that include comparative ethnic studies, Asian American studies, geography, and urban and suburban studies, Wendy Cheng joins the Department of Social & Cultural Analysis as an Assistant Professor/ Faculty Fellow. She received her A.B. in English from Harvard University (1998); her M.A. in Geography from the University of California - Berkeley (2003); and her Ph.D. in American Studies and Ethnicity from the University of Southern California (2009).
Dr. Cheng's publications include "Democratizing Tourism, Illuminating Power: A People's Guide to Los Angeles," with Laura Barraclough, in Progressive Planning; "Remodeling the Minority: The Prospect for Vietnamese Americans in a 'New' New Orleans" in Hyphen Magazine; and interviews with authors Karen Tei Yamashita, Pankaj Mishra, and Nina Revoyr. Her book project examines regional processes of racial formation in majority-Asian American and Latina/o suburbs. She is also currently preparing a manuscript titled A People's Guide to Los Angeles, with Laura Pulido and Laura Barraclough.
