Questions about undergraduate- level study

Can I major in Social and Cultural Analysis?

Students will be able to major not only in Social and Cultural Analysis, but also in all six of the Department’s program areas (Africana Studies, American Studies, Asian/Pacific/American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latino Studies, Metropolitan Studies) as soon as the new and revised majors have been approved by New York State Education Department. In the meantime, students can major in Africana Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Metropolitan Studies, and they can minor in all six program areas.

How do I declare a major?

Download and complete the Major/Minor Declaration Form, or drop by the department to pick one up. Simply follow the specific instructions that are included on the form.

How do I get cleared to register?

Twice a year you must meet with your advisor to go over your course schedule. Check the calendar on the NYU Registrar’s website for the two advisement periods. Come in to make an appointment with your advisor, fill out a Torchtone Registration Worksheet and meet with your advisor. Once advised, be sure to have your advisor sign the worksheet.  Submit it to be cleared to register on the registration date assigned by the NYU Registrar.

For more information, see the websites of the individual programs.
